  • Driving on the wrong side of the road or the wrong way – 1,332 injured, 62 killed

Driving too fast for the conditions caused the most accidents and injured the most people. Although driving under the influence caused far fewer accidents overall, it was the number one cause of fatal traffic accidents in 2013.

Also of note:

  • Defective vehicle accidents injured 691 people and caused eight deaths
  • Defective roadways were a factor in 915 accidents injuring 245 people and killing one person
